Our Tuesday, June 9th Hometown Heroes are Kevin and Brianna Duncan. They were nominated by co-worker and family friend Kelli Conley. Kelli says, “ Kevin is a healthcare worker and his wife is a stay at home mom w/ 3 kids. When the quarantine started, they posted a fun question on their FB page EVERY Saturday morning and put anyone who answered into a drawing for a free family meal that they purchased from local restaurants AND delivered to the winner’s house. This was an awesome way they supported local restaurants and brought food, fun and smiles to the weekly winner.
The Duncan’s began the “Saturday Dinner Giveaway” on April 4th and continued through May 16. They gave away dinners from:
Family Tree Cafe (Nina Vail)-they provided dinner one week AND for 3 weeks they donated desserts to add to the meals.
JC’s Smokehouse in Nicholasville
Bella Notte
Papa John’s
Bob Evans in Nicholasville
Sonny’s BBQ in Nicholasville
They also had a family friend and her family decide to do dinner giveaways too. They said the Duncan’s inspired them to pay it forward.
Brianna said, “There were 3 occasions where we had families pay for the weekly meal or pay for a portion of the meal, that was really amazing. We loved putting smiles on people’s faces during the quarantine. It also allowed us to be able to support local businesses. Our whole family involved, we would do Facebook live drawings and our daughter (7) would choose the name from a bowl. It’s important to us to show our kids how to love one another and show kindness. The best way to turn a frown upside down is to bring a smile to someone else’s face!“
