Our Monday, April 27th Hometown Heroes is David & Amy Shannon, owners of Shannon Lamp Service.
When the Covid-19 crisis began and small businesses were ordered to shut their doors, David and Amy Shannon decided to do something special to help their community – he created the Green Light Bulb Charity Fundraiser. Governor Beshear has been asking Kentuckians to light up their homes with green lights to remember the ones we have lost to the Coronavirus, and David and Amy Shannon wanted to make sure Central Kentuckians could do that AND support a good cause at the same time. He has been giving away the light bulbs, and only asking for a minimum $5 donation per bulb, hoping that some would donate much more. To date, Shannon Lamp Service has distributed over 900 light bulbs to the Central Kentucky community, raising thousands of dollars for the Blue Grass Community Foundation.
David says, “We are a family run business. My dad started this company in 1956 and we’ve been in business for 64 years. We wanted to help support our community and this is our way of contributing. We are making a difference. We are donating all of the profits of these bulbs. Many people have donated additional money for this cause. We are still collecting money and have a waiting list for bulbs.”
